What is the EYFS?

It is a framework which shapes high standards of practice. At our playgroup we embrace the EYFS wholeheartedly, from activities, resources and staff training through to policies, procedures and management. A child's experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. The Playgroup follows a structure of learning, development and care for children from birth to five years old. This is called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and it enables your child to learn through a range of activities. EYFS seeks to ensure that we provide the level of care which means parents can be confident that their child will receive a quality experience that supports their development and learning. The EYFS principles that guide the work of the Playgroup are grouped into four themes and are as follows: A Unique Child - every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. Positive Relationships - children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a keyperson Enabling Environments - the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning. Learning and Development - children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected. There are seven areas of Learning and Development, which help us to observe, plan and assess your child's activities, based on their individual development and needs. PERSONAL,SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION & LANGUAGE PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT LITERACY MATHEMATICS UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD EXPRESSIVE ARTS & DESIGN This approach ensures that the EYFS meets the overarching aim of improving outcomes. The three characteristics of effective teaching and learning are: PLAYING AND EXPLORING ACTIVE LEARNING CREATING AND THINKING CRITICALLY. If you would like more information regarding the EYFS then please speak to a member of staff.

Who are our Committee?

Our group is a registered charity, managed by an elected committee of parents. A committee of parents manage our group, and we ask all parents to give serious thought to joining the committee. The committee meets between 3 and 6 times a year to make decisions about fundraising, fees, staffing and running the group. We are always looking to recruit new committee members, so please let us know if interested.

Registered Charity

Happy Kids - Altrincham Preschool Playgroup is a registered charity, managed by an elected committee of parents, and run by 4 permanent members of staff. We are a friendly and extremely well organised setting situated in St George’s Bicentennial Church Hall in Altrincham. As a charity, we rely on fundraising to keep us going. We hold various fundraising events during the year, including regulars like bake sales, bag making, toddle waddles and summer fairs. Parents are encouraged to attend and help out with all of these events where possible. We also ask for a suggested donation of £30 (per year) which goes towards the cost of providing resources for baking, play dough, items for our making table and gardening equipment. If you are a UK taxpayer, please gift aid your donation.

Parent Volunteers

Parents are invited to help out during sessions at their convenience - it is a great opportunity to see their child at play in the setting, but there is no obligation to do this.
